STONE KITCHEN BENCHTOPS

Granite World stone bench tops are a wonderful way to bring a space to life. They will transform a room into an area that is a pleasure to work in. Used in commercial settings and in the home, our quartz, marble, engineered stone and granite benchtops are great choices for long-lasting, practical use and will remain ‘on trend’ for the life of your kitchen.

When choosing a Granite World stone benchtop it is essential to choose the right stone for your project. Each type of stone has different characteristics making some a better choice than others. We have a range of stone to choose from, including white and black granite benchtops.

What to consider when choosing a stone benchtop?

At Granite World, we will help you to understand the pros and cons of each stone type. We want you to love your bench top. Helping you to make the right choice is part of that process – and it is part of what we consider to be good service, costing you nothing.

When choosing a stone benchtop consider:

  • Will the benchtop be used every day or just occasionally?
  • Will it be used in a home or in a commercial setting?
  • Will users be willing and have time to place any hot items onto trivets or boards rather than the stone bench top itself?
  • How important is it to you that it is easy to clean?
  • Is it likely to have spills of red wine, tomato sauce, beetroot, coffee or other highly staining foods?
  • How regularly will you want to maintain it to keep it looking new?
  • How important is it that it blends in with other elements or colour schemes of your home or commercial setting?

A stone bench top is a lifetime choice but your answers to these questions will influence what type of stone is best for you.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • Can stone crack?

Stone is an incredibly strong material and is often selected for that very reason. With normal use, there is no reason that your stone should crack. The most likely times for cracks to occur are in transit or at installation. Therefore, it is important to have your stone installed by qualified installers. We offer an installation service to all of our Perth clients to ensure that their product is installed correctly and safely.

  • Does stone stain?

Despite how it may appear, natural stone is porous. This means that if it is left unsealed then staining can occur. Red wine, beetroot, coffee, chocolate, tomato sauce, mayonnaise, any of these things and many more can stain a stone surface and leave a lasting mark. To avoid this it is important to seal your natural stone regularly and clean it promptly.

Engineered stone is non-porous and therefore much easier to keep stain free. The adhesive that binds the stone together in engineered stone creates its own permanent seal that protects your surface.

  • Which type of stone should I use for my kitchen counter?

The best choice of stone for your kitchen counter will depend on how your counter is going to be used as much as the look you want for the room. Things to consider when choosing a stone are:

Is it likely to get stained?
Are people likely to put hot dishes directly on the surface?
Does it need to blend with other features in the room?
The best way to choose the right stone is to speak to one of our team. Our advice is free and we can help you make the best decision that will last you a lifetime.

  • What are the advantages of engineered stone?

Engineered stone are non-porous, hygienic and easy to clean. They still have all the beauty of natural stone with none of the high maintenance needs. The superior strength of engineered stone means that it can be cut to much smaller sizes than natural stone and, if chipped over time, it can be polished back to a ‘like new’ surface.

  • What size of stone can you cut?

At Granite World, we can cut stone to as thin as 20ml. Our machinery is the most up-to-date and the experience of our stonemasons means we can give our customers the very best results from their stone.

  • How do I clean and take care of my stone?

Natural stone, such as marble or granite, should be cleaned regularly with warm water and a non-abrasive cloth or sponge. Special stone cleaners that are pH balanced can also be used for cleaning natural stone. Do not use abrasive products of general purpose cleaners or products that contain lemon, acids or vinegar as these will damage the surface.

Engineered stone should be cleaned with warm soapy water using a mild detergent and a soft cloth or sponge.

  • Is it necessary to seal your stone?

Natural stone, like marble or granite, is slightly porous and must therefore be sealed in order to avoid staining. It is important to regularly reseal your marble or granite surfaces to keep them protected as much as possible.

Engineered stone does not need to be sealed. Although it is made up of crushed natural stone, the adhesive that binds it together creates a seal, protecting it from staining without the need for additional sealant or protection.
